Valentina Tsoneva

Valentina Tsoneva was born in Bulgaria and relocated to Florida in her adult years. She holds an MA in Bulgarian and English Literature from VTU, Bulgaria, and MA in English Education from USF, USA. Later, in 2016 and 2017, she attended courses within The International Writers’ Program at the University of Iowa, where she studied the storytelling techniques from renowned writers and poets like Margot Livesey, Rebecca Makkai, Christopher Merrill, and many more international authors.

In 2019, she participated in Miami Writers’ Conference, led by the winner of the 2015 First Novelist Award, Angela Flournoy.

Her poem “Causa Perduta” won second prize in a 2017 competition held by the National League of American Pen Women, Tampa. Her collection of short stories Cursed Beauty was the winner in the category of unpublished books at the San Francisco Book Festival in 2021.

Currently, she teaches and writes in the Sunshine State, which has two seasons: hot and hotter. She likes to travel, read, do yoga, run 5Ks, and not necessarily in that order.

Fun Facts:

  • She loves handymen work around the house or anywhere else. She loved Physics in high school and likes to know how things work and why they don’t when they stop.
  • She had visited 10+ countries in Europe, in addition to the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
  • She strongly dislikes snakes and insects. She would take any measures not to cross their path, but it will be best if they avoid hers as well.
  • Loves dark chocolate, tree, and fence climbing.
